Black men kidnapped . . . Brutalized . . . Families torn asunder . . . Abused by white society . . . . And escaping from the South doesn't guarantee an escape from the pain that can sear the soul.

Joe Turner's Come and Gone 北京快3全天计划is, chronologically, the second of August Wilson's ten plays that examine the challenges of African American life in the United States during each decade of the twentieth century.

北京快3全天计划Even after the Emancipation Proclamation and the outcome of the Civil War,  Joe Turner continued to entrap and enslave.  But, though mentioned in the play, he never appears on the stage.  Turner, and others like him, inflicted deep gashes of pain on the characters August Wilson created, but Joe Turner, himself, has come AND GONE.

北京快3全天计划As we experience this play, set in 1911 in Seth and Bertha Holly's boarding house in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, we discover how human beings, supporting each other, can summon the strength to free themselves from internal, as well as external, oppression and forge the spiritual, social and economic lives that they, themselves, create.

Joe Turner will be performed Thursday, December 5 through Monday, December 9, in the Black Box Theatre on the lower level of the Grace Hill Jacobs Building, near the North Avenue entrance to the campus.   Performances begin at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and on Monday.  On Sunday, the performance begins at 3:00 p.m.   General admission is $25;  for seniors and students, admission is  $20;  for Coppin students with IDs, tickets are $10.  Reduced rate tickets for groups and sponsorships for organizations are also available.  Contact Dr. Garey Hyatt at ghyatt@coppin.edu  or at 410 - 951-3369 for additional information.

We look forward to welcoming you to the theatre!
